Studying Outdoors

After hours of being indoor for classes, or studying at the library, at some point or another you start to crave being outside to enjoy the good weather that day. Of course, you can’t just ignore your studies, which is why the University of Texas at Dallas has multiple outdoor areas loaded with power outlets, WiFi and excellent outdoor space to match your studying needs.

TEXAS INSTRUMENT PLAZA

Located beside Founders and across from the Collegium, this multi-level outdoor space is a popular study location due to how quiet and sunny it is. With power outlets, shade and a nice breeze, it is one of the coolest places to study outdoors. Additionally, it occasionally has interesting events set up, so even if you went in with intentions to study, you may leave with a fun experience.

HONORS COLLEGE

This section is not just available to the Honors students, despite it being in front of the Honors College. This area features several chairs and tables to work at with shade provided, and is commonly used for outdoor group projects on days that are perfect for being outside. Given its closeness to several classes in the North and South Malls, many students use the area between classes to study up.

THE PLINTH

Now, some people prefer to have a little background music when they study. For some, it helps them focus better. In such cases, the Plinth is a fantastic place to go to for such students, as everyday throughout the school year there is music being played at the center stage.

ARTS AND HUMANITIES

Right behind the building, on the side closest to the Science Learning Center, are several tables, stone benches and work spaces available to our students. The area is common for group projects and is a popular spot for group study at night, where our students can also enjoy the view of the Science Learning Center’s display glowing in the evening.

NORTH MALL

The northern half of the university has several stone benches, all the way up to the Administration building. What’s great about them though is that all of them have outlets available to all students. Given its distance from the heart of the university down by the Plinth, this area is extremely quiet throughout the day. While most of the University’s events take place in the South Mall, the North Mall benefits from having less events, so that our students are assured a quiet place of study.

So, if you’re looking for a place to study, keep these in mind!
