I remember coming to UT Dallas as a freshman and instantly falling in love with our campus. I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to be attending such a great university. My first semester at UT Dallas was incredible and as I was preparing to head into my second, I had starting to look into on campus jobs.
One of my friends told me about a “STAR” position and upon learning about it, I couldn’t think of a better job opportunity for me on campus! STAR stands for Student Tour and Admission Representatives. As a UT Dallas STAR, I get to show people around the campus through daily tours, activities during prospective student events, and at the UT Dallas Visitor Center. My hope is that I influence their decision to come fall in love with UT Dallas just as I did.
I have been working as a tour guide a little over a year now and I love every second of it. Showing incoming freshman around and being able to be that first impression that they get of UT Dallas is no small task. The STAR position is a job to be taken seriously for sure, but there is a lot of room for fun as well! My fellow tour guides have become good friends to have not just in the workplace but on campus as well.
If you are a freshman coming into UT Dallas and it has had a positive impact on you I highly encourage you to check out our STAR program though the Career Center’s website CometCareers. Show people around campus, make new friends, all while enhancing your people skills! Come check us tour guides out and see why all of us love our school!
