This summer, I became a STAR (Student Tour Ambassadors for Recruitment) at The University of Texas at Dallas! Basically, what my role entails is working at the front desk areas within the Visitor Center and Student Services Buildings, giving tours to prospective students and helping to prepare for events that allow prospective students to visit campus. I have to say that giving tours is by far my favorite part.
When I first became a STAR, Everyone who works with me always asked if I was nervous to give campus tours, however, I did debate for four years in high school so public speaking does not intimidate me. The hardest part about giving the tours was learning to walk backwards. As I trained, I managed to trip over signs and steps a few times, but it’s gotten better over time!
I love interacting with new people and telling them why UT Dallas is unique (and in my opinion the best school out there). It’s also nice to have supportive friends that see the work I do on campus! I am continually getting snapchats from my friends of me giving tours on campus! I really like UT Dallas and I hope you will visit us soon!
